L'auteur examine l'identité du fondateur du couvent athonite de Xéropotamou. Il émet l'hypothèse que Paul Xéropotamitès, actif contre les innovations lauriotes pendant la deuxième moitié du Xème siècle, est la même personne que celui qui, au début du XIIème siècle, utilise la dénomination moine Xéropotamitès. Ce personnage, comme le veut la tradition du couvent de Xéropotamou, bien que falsifiée, doit avoir eu des rapports avec la cour de Constantinople sous Romain II et doit être le fondateur des couvents de Xéropotamou et de Saint Paul.
